Presidio and Area Attractions

Our region is the oldest continuously cultivated area in the United States. Farmers have lived at this important confluence of two great Texas rivers, Rio Grande and Rio Concho, since 1500 B.C. Our city and area are rich in cultural history, and vistas in the Big Bend region are simply awesome. With a population of about 4,000 people, Presidio is the gateway to Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park via FM 170, one of the top 10 scenic highways in North America according to National Geographic. Big Bend Ranch State Park is a must-see for southwest travelers. The New York Times called it “the other Big Bend,” and Texas Monthly said it’s “more of a ranch than a park” and it’s “the best wilderness experience that Texas has to offer.”

Presidio, the oldest town in the United States, is also home of the first recorded Christmas celebration in the U.S. in 1683. Other features nearby that attract visitors to Presidio include dark skies, ghost towns, Texas longhorns, Presidio Arts Festival each March, Fort Leaton pioneer trading post, and the popular Big Bend bluebonnet season each February, March and April. Presidio is a popular stop for motorcyclists year-round. Our visitors’ kiosk offers free wi-fi service in addition to information about Presidio and the region.

Travelers to this prime international border crossing of the Big Bend area will find an international bridge from Presidio to Ojinaga, the seat of municipality for the northern state of Chihuahua, Mexico. A market community for the rural area, Ojinaga has a population of about 28,000 people. Travelers are attracted to the market, trade and shopping opportunities on both sides of the river.

Norma was a very sweet lady and helped out a lot. The rooms were clean everyday, and the restaurant across the street was amazing!

This is a clean, well-located motel in the small town of Presidio near the border and close to the west end of Big Bend Ranch State Park. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and well-informed. The property has a nice-sized pool and a restaurant, the Oasis, at which we had an excellent Tex-Mex dinner.

I was on my way to the Copper Canyon in Mexico, and I spent the night at the Three Palms Inn. I was glad to find a nice place to stay. The clerk that checked me in was nice and friendly. She recommended the Oasis as a place to have dinner. On my way back from Mexico I returned and stayed there again!

I recently stayed at the Three Palms Inn. The room was very nice and clean. I enjoyed the swimming pool after a hot day. I also dined at the restaurant next door. The food there was great!

I have traveled to Presidio over the past few years. The first time was in November 2009. My daughter and I stayed at the Three Palms Inn for a week while visiting the desert. We enjoyed the clean rooms, friendly staff and the great swimming pool. The Oasis restaurant next door has the best Mexican food in the whole town. I came back through in 2010 and 2011 and the staff at the hotel remembered me and treated me like family. You can’t find a more welcoming group. The people there are outstanding. I look forward to seeing them every time I return to Presidio.

If you are traveling for business or pleasure through Presidio, Texas, the Three Palms Inn is a great place to stay. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The pool is fantastic after a long, hot day visiting Big Bend Ranch State Park and Big Bend National Park, and the food at the Oasis next door is fantastic.
